Hello. My name is Christina Lee and I am a twenty nine year old graduate student at the University of West Alabama. I am recently received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education last December and have decided to further my education by pursuing a master’s degree . Having a love for adventure and an eagerness to learn, I enjoy trying new things. Some of my hobbies include Scuba Diving, Painting, Drawing, and Photography. An artist, a mother, and a student, I enjoy working with children creating art. I feel as if art is important for children at a young age because it gives them an outlet for creative self-expression and also a means of communication. I myself, found a love for art at a young age, and have been very blessed to have encountered people throughout my childhood who have aided in helping my love for art flourish. My advisor, mentor, and confidant gave me a fabulous opportunity several years ago to teach an art lesson to young elementary students at Sumter Academy. As I was presenting information about Pablo Picasso to these young children, I knew that instant that teaching and integrating the Arts, was "my true calling." My son Jackson Lee Dickerson is almost five years old and has truly been my inspiration. Being a single mother and a student has not been an easy journey, but the obstacles I have overcome, the goals I have met, and the tasks that I have yet to achieve, have taught me that an individual who is driven with motivation and determination, can accomplish almost anything they put their minds to. Upon completing my master’s degree, I hope to start and complete a dissertation involving arts education and the importance of its presence in the elementary classroom setting. Over the last couple of years I have met wonderful instructors and administration who have inspired me to become some of the wonderful teachers that they are. I hope to develop into an effective teacher with exemplary role model behavior whom not only inspires her students, but also instills in them necessary and valuable skills or tools, that they can use in their futures. Netvibes.com is an excellent website with various tools that portray the excellent technology that is available on the internet today. I found that one of the coolest features on this website was the dashboard available could allow the netvibe user to link widgets, email, and other various tools to their blogs and personal websites. Aol, yahoo, and msn are also other types of email providers that you can find at netvibes.com.
I joined the site and will be able to post more interesting tidbits as I encounter them.
This is an awesome website for educators where many types of resources can be discovered. Free educational games and flash tools are offered here and can be used in your own classroom. Some of these flash tools include: customizable, free templates that educators can embed into blogs, wikis, and websites that they may offer to their students and or other collegeauges in order to collaborate and or instruct inside the classroom. If you have not checked out this site, browse through it briefly. I am positive that you will be able to find something you and others you may know that could be helpful in your own classroom.

These are the four blogs that I chose..... 1. http://tlpsart.edublogs.org/http://missblessings.edublogs.org/ 2. http://tlpsart.edublogs.org/http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/leonardo/gallery/monalisa.shtml">http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/leonardo/gallery/monalisa.shtml 3.http://gbrovont.edublogs.org/http://gbrovont.edublogs.org/2010/06/11/virtual-volcano-link/ http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/pompeii/interactive/interactive.html 4. 4.http://mrmoores.edublogs.org/ About Me… Posted on May 26, 2010 by mrmoores Follow the directions listed here to complete your About Me post. Please try to write at least ten sentences about yourself. This should not be difficult for you. You experiences at school, things your do for fun and favorite activities could all be topics for this post. Good luck! Activity 1. Write or update your ‘About me’ page. Tell your readers your first name only, a bit about your interests but remember to be internet savvy and not give out any personal details. These are four examples of things I found posted on http://theedublogger.com/check-out-these-class-blogs/ . They had examples of neat activities and ideas along with art projects and tons of teacher resources that I will definitely refer back to when I have my own classroom. I found it fascinating, especially with the Australian art link, that even our educators in the USA have reached out and connected with this country in the sense of sharing ideas, photos, blogs, questions, and fabulous lesson plan ideas. I even noticed that the innovative teacher was subscribed to this particular blog. Beautiful creations and works of art by students were posted along with lesson plan instructions and objectives. I believe that http://tlpsart.edublogs.org/http://missblessings.edublogs.org/ was my most favorite finding out of all the blogs that I have googled and searched for the last 1o hours. I myself am an artist and am looking for ways to integrate art and ideas into curriculum that does not have time alloted, for art and arts education. I may find that I become employed in a school system that does not have alot of funding for art and arts education for their students. In that case, I would like to be prepared and at least equipped with a plentiful source of ideas and knowledge on topics concerning arts integration and how to incorporate it into your classroom's daily lessons. Very interesting. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CHECK THIS OUT. I could use each and everyone of these blog examples in my own classroom. I especially dig the awesome volcano link that is interactive and really informative for students. Most of the time, students get more out of hands-on, visual, and interactive learning models, presentations, etc. etc. I feel as if I have found many more new resources that I will use and also share with my fellow educators and coworkers. I definitely believe that blogs can be used in the classroom. Assessments, self assessments, informative presentations, reading for information, tutorials, and collecting and analyzing data are just a few of the various options that blogging online and integrating technology into elementary and secondary classrooms can really do for us. Grammar and spelling isn't always the most important thing a student should master when it comes to main ideas or concepts that are being presented on very important topics...but IT DOES MATTER... We should always model good examples for our students, children, and for all that are involved in educational settings... that's why it is super important for educators to monitor what sites are suggested to their students at all times. Giving young people the tools and skills that they need in order to become sucessful in their futures are part of the instructor's duties and characteristics/criteria that they must master themselves in order to become an effective teacher. Practice what you preach. Yes, that's it. Practice what you preach. YOU can do it. :) And when you do, you will also see your students modeling your own behavior and also reaping the numerous benefits that come along with it: success, positive attitudes, and a willingness to learn. This fabulous tool can be used in several grades throughout the school system. It can be great for teaching students geometry ideas or even assist them in a social studies project involving communities and/or map making. This really is a great webtool supplied by google that can really get students thinking about buildings and landmarks in a larger perspective.
2. http://gelessons.com/lessons/#HowTo
Not always will there be a perfect tutorial or browsing session for both students or teachers. Sometimes we need an extra push or hand to help us navigate our way through unfamiliar websites or webtools. This is perfect because it provides both minilessons and student or teacher focused "how-to's" which are geared to help the "learner" achieve and master skills and webtools that are offered by Google on the internet today. This is a good way to get students at a young age started on mastering computer programs that are actually valuable tools that they can use in both their highschool, college, and adult careers and paths. Definitely a must try in your own classroom. What could it hurt?
What an informative wikispace!! There were links that ranged from any, all, and most of the technology tools that we have been exploring in our ED 505 class. All of these tools offered here are additive resources for your own classroom. So many lesson plans can be derived out of all the helpful tools that are offered here. There is even free software downloads linked to this particular wiki. Any ideas and suggestions are always welcomed when it comes to new lesson plans and activities that can really get a group of students going in my classroom or educational setting. I am always in search of new ways and ideas for instructing important ideas and key concepts to the students that I teach. Any interesting idea, activity, game, or computer program is sure to get the youngsters going and engaged in the lesson which you are trying to teach. Why not make it interesting for them? Atleast they will participate and possibly have a chance at remembering information in which you are telling them about, more importantly, some of these tools are ways that you as an educator can bridge those connections for the students who may use this as a learning mechanism.
4. http://www.googlelittrips.org/
Googlelittrips.org may be somewhat difficult for very small elementary children but it could be an excellent Unit or block for high school aged kids. This would get students excited about literature, history, or social studies lessons. Some students generally are not crazy about reading but if you could get them involved in an interactive project where they use the computer to learn about important icons in our history, they do not even realize that most of the time that they are reading for information. This is somewhat difficult to navigate but the overall idea is ingenious. Kind of reminds me of Carmen SanDiego.
I dig it!! :)
